Kathleen Schweizer

"I grew up in a small village in southwestern Ohio in a family of talented artists and was constantly exposed to a wide variety of arts and crafts. I started my art career at the tender age of 4 when I sneaked into my parents ice cream business storeroom and (much to their dismay) hand painted the entire inventory of boxed paper goods with oil based paint.... WOW.... was i in trouble.

Over the years I have lived in Chicago, Seattle, Florida and Puerto Vallarta and during that time I expanded my creativity repertoire to include collage, hand built and thrown pottery, theatre  costumes and backdrops, paper-making, spinning/weaving/dyeing, basketry, mosaic work, construction of jewelry from imported glass beads and sterling silver, creating life masks, contemporary art quilts and soft sculptures. (Do you get the idea i like variety in  my life?)

Residing in Albuquerque's Northern Valley since 2003, I consider myself a mixed-media artist and work mainly with paper, fabric and beads. I am currently enthralled with creating collage on canvas and i create a high-end line of greeting cards "Kards by Kathleen" featuring iris folding technique which originated in Holland.

In addition to iris paper folding, my cards also feature the techniques of collage, origami, embossing, and hand-painting. I love sharing my talent and teaching both children and adults."
